St Mary's Kirk Fenton will be celebrating the community of Church Fenton on Sunday 24th June at the annual community service. Everyone welcome!
What could you do that is new this year? Have you tried church recently? If not, why not choose one of our services that is likely to suit you and give it a go?
If you like a quiet traditional service, then either 8am or 4pm would be best...both are Communion services and follow the Book of Common Prayer. In the morning there is no music, but the evening service we sing traditional hymns and psalms, led by the choir.
Our biggest Sunday service is at 10.30am - on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month it is a more modern version of the Communion service. The 2nd Sunday is also a good time to come if you have children as we have special activities for them at Sunday Explorers.
If you would prefer not to take Communion, the 3rd Sunday would suit you - a more reflective Morning Prayer service, with hymns and a sermon.
The 1st Sunday is our All Age Worship service (we welcome all ages to all our services, but this tries to have something for everyone!) - more modern music mixed with the traditional, a short talk and prayers and lasting just under an hour.
There are plenty of other things to try as well...that's just on Sundays...so why not explore this site and try something new this year? We'd love to see you.
On Sunday 2nd December, as part of the town's Christmas Market, St Mary's will be hosting a Nativity Festival in the Boys' Sunday School from 10.00am-3:00pm. Light Lunches and Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
We will once again be using the room upstairs in the Boys’ Sunday School to create a wonderful Stable Scene. Maybe you will have been to Santa’s Grotto and received a present from Father Christmas… we are inviting everyone in the town to visit our ‘Bethlehem stable’ and bring a present for the baby Jesus. Please do not wrap your gift. Gifts will then be distributed to families living in local towns and cities where, in the current economic climate, they will be really appreciated!
We are also inviting everyone who comes to help ‘Create a Nativity’. We will have a number of different craft tables set up where you can add your bit to the Nativity scene. We want this to be a community effort to make a great display!
At 3.30pm we hope everyone will join us in church for our Christingle service, where we will help to support the work of the Children's Society.
Celebrate the heart of Christmas with us!
We are changing our provision for children during the morning services from this month. Sunday Explorers will happen on the second Sunday of each month (except for November when it will be the third Sunday!) All children/young people aged 3-14 years are welcome to come over to the Boys' Sunday School when the group leave from church for their own activities.
Children are welcomed at all our services, but the first and second Sundays of the month are special! The first Sunday is a service for all ages, with things for the children to be involved in, and now the second is Sunday Explorers...come along and find out more!
This coming weekend we will be celebrating Harvest across the Benefice.
On Saturday 6th October, St Andrew's, Newton Kyme will be open from 10am - 4pm with beautiful displays and flower arrangements. Refreshments will be served and there will be cakes & preserves sold.
St Mary's church will also be open on Saturday for those who would like to have a look at the Harvest decorations. Coffee is served in the adjoining Boys' Sunday School from 10-11.30am.
On Sunday 7th October, there will be a Harvest service at St Mary's at 10.30am. This is suitable for all ages, with traditional harvest hymns and the chance to bring fresh or tinned produce to bring to the altar. This will be distributed to local residents next week.
The Harvest Family Service at Newton Kyme is at 11am on Sunday and will be a chance to try some Harvest activities.
In the evening at S Mary's, starting at 6pm, there will be a traditional Harvest Evensong & Holy Communion service.
You are welcome at any of these events.
