Baptisms

Baptism is a very special service to celebrate the birth of a new child and to thank God for your baby. It is also a service where your child is invited into membership of God's family and where parents and Godparents make some big promises about bringing up the child to become a full part of that family.
Baptism services at Tadcaster normally take place on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 12.30. The service lasts for about an hour. To book a baptism service, contact Rachel, our administrator (07545 516949).
At Church Fenton, most baptisms take place on the first Sunday of the month at 11.30am and Newton Kyme and Kirkby Wharfe are by arrangement.
We cannot always accomodate your first choice of date as we do get quite booked up, especially at Tadcaster, and with 4 churches to look after our vicar and curate cannot always be available on the date you would like.

Before the date of the baptism, you are asked to attend a morning service where the whole church will welcome your child into the church family and prayers will be said to give thanks for them. We will tell you the date when you book the baptism service.

Baptisms at Tadcaster
You will be invited to attend our Morning 'All Age' service a few weeks before the baptism on the 1st Sunday of the month. (Don't worry about working out the dates, we'll send you a reminder!) This service starts at 10.30 and is very family friendly and informal. A short session of preparation for the baptism will take place after the service has ended. You may also be visited at home to give you chance to think about the promises you'll be making.
After the baptism, we will invite you back to the Morning Praise service at the beginning of the next month, to be welcomed by the whole church and to receive a gift for your child, as they grow.
Both before and after the service, you are warmly invited to bring your children to Praise and Pray on a Monday afternoon. We hope this will help you as you bring your children up to follow Jesus. This informal time of singing and bible stories happens every Monday during term time at 1.30pm in the church and is a good time to get to know other parents too.
If you would like to thank God for your new baby, but you are not sure that you want a full baptism service, with the promises that it involves, then contact Rachel (07545 516949) to talk about arranging a Thanksgiving service instead.
